We caught up with Abbey Steven after her trip to photograph Groovin The Moo — Here’s what we found out…

“It’s hard to describe my subculture. To keep it short and simple…I love the south coast, live music, Italian food and the footy. I think I’ve just noticed all these things I’m attracted to that are apart of other subcultures, and made it part of me. I don’t think I can subject myself to “one” subculture – does that make sense?”

On Good Friday, sorry I mean Bad Friday I headed down to Sydney (Marrickville to be precise) to catch my friends in Mac The Knife & Dante Knows perform for the House of Music & Booze’s Bad Friday (Lite) Edition. I caught up with Bryn from Mac The Knife for a couple of cold ones, and we had a quick chat about their upcoming single that will be released in May and their upcoming single launch in Marrickville.

Australian indie-pop duo LOVELOVELOVE pushes the genre boundaries, blurring the complexities of emotion & feeling into uniquely written records. 2022 marked the beginning of the project, with two strongly anticipated singles, “smalltowns" & “holding on” released early in the year to kickstart the project. Alongside Lukae, LOVELOVELOVE released their first collaborative single “Break Your Heart” in October, marking the return with a focus on a more indie-rock/indie pop sound.

We caught up with Sydney band Great Job! Ahead of their gig in Sydney with The Smith Street Band and the release of their brand new single “Grot”

Depending on where I was, I would try take them to the highest point to show them the best view and then try and find the nearest establishment for a drink or two!

Electronic Producer Kilter recently dropped his first release of 2023 called "High Hopes" via our team at SUBCULTURE?, we have been working on this project for the last 8 months, since his return from Europe and across his previously released Forever and Ever / Breakthru double single project with Brain Flowers (under Etc Etc). We caught up with Kilter today, to have a brief chat about what's going on in his world, and wanted to share it with our readers.

On Saturday January 21st, we at SUBCULTURE? in collaboration with Sydney-Indie Electronica Duo Barley Passable, ran an event at Goodspace Gallery (Above The Lord Gladdy) for the Premiere of ‘Til I Say So (ft Betty) music video. 


Even the water dragons were listening in from the stage, awaiting somebody to throw them the last of their pizza crust. All in all, both artists performed for 45 minutes each, and both have upcoming releases in the coming weeks!
