On Friday 8 May, British alternative rock mainstays Basement return with WIRED, their first new album in eight years and a reunion with their original label, Run For Cover Records. Spanning 12 tracks, the record sees the band reconnect with the unfiltered passion and creative instinct that has long defined their most vital work.
Today, the band — vocalist Andrew Fisher, guitarists Alex Henery and Ronan Crix, bassist Duncan Stewart, and drummer James Fisher — preview WIRED with the release of lead singles “WIRED” and “Broken By Design,” offering an early look at the album’s dynamic scope. The title track captures Basement at their most urgent: a likely live staple driven by needling guitars, pounding drums, and a towering hook that showcases Fisher’s voice at full power. By contrast, “Broken By Design” takes a more restrained approach — dusky, delicate and bass-led — while still retaining the immediate melodic pull and brooding character that has become synonymous with the band.
