“I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices — a new version of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake, without truly reflecting,” Shelton says. “This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done, and it only fits a song that literally spells out ‘bad idea.’”
Loaded with Shelton’s trademark “ughs,” handclaps, synths, and hooks, “B A D I D E A” offers a taste of the personal themes driving God Save the Gun. Lyrically, the record is described as “an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief,” with Shelton reflecting candidly on his own struggles with addiction.
