Dinosaur Jr. Announce New Album There Near, Drop Single & Fall Tour Dates
The legendary trio of J Mascis, Murph, and Lou Barlow are officially back. Dinosaur Jr. has announced their next studio album, There Near, arriving August 28, 2026 via Jagjaguwar.
Serving as the follow-up to 2021’s Sweep Into Space, the album's announcement comes alongside the release of its lead single, “Several Got Away.”
Frontman J Mascis shared his typical laid-back, esoteric philosophy on the songwriting process:
“I'm not always sure what a song is 'about' when I'm writing it. I guess the meaning will present itself at some point. I'll use whatever words work. And a lot of it will be influenced by whatever esoteric mumbo jumbo I'm reading at the time. I try not to think too hard about any of it. I think it's a drag that Spotify shows all the lyrics to a song. What's the fun of that?”
Following a summer co-headlining run with Band of Horses, the band will hit the road again in October for the second leg of their 2026 tour, featuring support from Detroit indie rocker Stef Chura.
