LISTEN TO THIS - Week of April 22nd

Turn the volume up—we’re diving into a massive sonic spread, starting with the industrial energy of the Nine Inch Noize Coachella debut and moving through fresh releases from Iceage, Kurt Vile, and Ceremony. This journey weaves through a gritty throwback to the synth-punk pioneers Suicide, stops off for some hidden gems like Good Flying Birds, and finally hits the finish line with the metalcore legends of Poison The Well. Do your soul a favor and find something new to listen to today; it’s the best kind of therapy.

1. NINE INCH NOIZE - S/T

Nine Inch Nails‘ collaborations with Boys Noize began in 2024, when the German EDM producer remixed Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ Challengers soundtrack, and it blossomed last year when NIN made a short set of songs with Boys Noize a centerpiece of their Peel It Back Tour. Now, they’re releasing a unique, “purely electronic” full-length Nine Inch Noize album recorded “all over the place — some of it’s live, some in studios, hotels, planes, etc.,” according to Reznor, on Friday. The album is available to presave and preorder now.

2. ICE AGE - EMBER

Danish rockers Iceage have officially announced that their sixth studio album will be entitled ‘For Love of Grace & the Hereafter’, and will be released on 29th May via Mexican Summer.

Produced and mixed by the band themselves alongside Nis Bysted, this forthcoming LP saw the five-piece head to Swedish outpost Silence Studio to record - the first time they’d returned since tracking their beloved effort ‘Plowing Into The Field Of Love’ there back in 2014.

Aiming to capture the same vitality as that release, they set out to “try to shed any unnecessary weight”. Continuing, frontman Elias Rønnenfelt explains: “The songs needed to be immediate, urgent, raw, and fast. Catching outlets of energy is what excites us the most.”

New single and album opener ‘Ember’ is a case in point; positively swaggering with confidence, it’s an intriguing taste of what’s to come from the rest of ‘For Love…’, which will also feature recent track ‘Star’.

3. KURT VILE - CHANCE TO BLEED

Kurt Vile’s newest single, “Chance to Bleed,” is not trying to impress you. It’s uncomplicated and rustic, a sound that has found its home in Vile's notable discography. Back in June, Vile shared Classic Love, a gentle and minimalistic EP featuring indie folk musician Luke Roberts. Now, he’s back with a full-length LP titled Philadelphia’s been good to me, set for release on May 29. This single is a return to a higher, brighter energy that eases listeners into the thaw of spring.

4. CEREMONY - OTHER HELLS

For more than two decades, California's Ceremony have been leading lights in the global punk rock underground. They've continued to evolve sonically, from the frantic powerviolence of their early days to the New Order-style post-punk of 2019's In The Spirit World Now, but all that works exists within the same continuum. If you go see Ceremony live, they usually play song from all across that career, putting a varied discography on full display. Today, they're back with a new song that might mark the opening of a new chapter.

5. GOOD FLYING BIRDS - TALLULAH’S TAPE

Indie pop used to be so much scrappier: full of guitar fuzz, played by musicians whose passion generally superseded their skill. It was punk for people who couldn’t wear studs, down to the amateurish art, deeply direct lyrics, and underground cassette trading networks—a scene where the north stars were early Rough Trade 7"s and the Television Personalities instead of, say, Fleetwood Mac. And while all genres change with time, Good Flying BirdsTalulah’s Tape is a nice reminder that there is still something to be found in those imperfect origins.

6. SUICIDE - DREAM BABY DREAM

"Dream Baby Dream" is a song by the electro-punk band Suicide, written by its members Martin Rev and Alan Vega. It was released as a single in 1979 by Island Records. It has been covered by Neneh Cherry and The Thing on the 2011-recorded album The Cherry Thing and by Bruce Springsteen both live and in a studio version released on High Hopes (2014). Springsteen released a live version as an EP which was a part of the Alan Vega 70th Birthday Limited Edition EP Series in 2008. Also part of the EP series was a live version of "Dream Baby Dream" performed by Suicide on NBC's The Midnight Special in 1978.

7. POISON THE WELL - PEACE IN PLACE

Though Poison The Well have made appearances here and there over the last decade, celebrating anniversaries of some of the albums that make up their illustrious and influential discography, committing to making music once again was a whole different kettle of fish. Because in the past, he was able to just steamroll through. He was always pretty okay with pushing himself to his emotional limit on stage every night, because it’s all that he had ever known. Now, after 17 years away from it, his life is very different. 2026 has actually kicked off with one of the biggest differences: the birth of his son, Weyland. Adding father to his long list of credentials is a surefire way to make you reconfigure your priorities
